Refrigeration 'Got Involved' with the Wildlife Conservation
Society through the New York Aquarium just two years ago.
The summer of 2000 was a hot one and had heated up the water
in the Beluga Whale tank due to a complete lack of water cooling
equipment!
The tank temperature was so high that it was
killing the whales--so Bailey came up with a solution that
minimized spending and could be done at emergency speeds.
Bailey dedicated hundreds of hours of emergency custom planning
and worked overtime to save the whales.
The NY Aquarium (human) staff gave a tour of

whales had recovered--the whales and sealions where
so grateful that they gave them kisses!
- Beluga means "white" in Russian.
- Beluga whales are called the "canaries of the sea."
- Penguins have specially adapted blood vessels in their
feet to help them cope with standing on cold ice.
The blood vessels supply just enough heat to prevent the
penguins freezing to the ice, while at the same time keeping
